Robert Muasya

Board Member

Robert Muasya is a career wildlife manager with a service spanning for over 30 years. His background training and qualification is in the field of Wildlife Conservation and Management at Egerton University. He is also a student graduate of Diplomacy and International Relations at the University of Nairobi. Additionally, he is a graduate of the National Defense College (NDC Kenya) where the main area of training was Strategy formulation and formulation of a Grand Strategy for Kenya in 2003. He possesses other qualifications in Senior Management and wildlife security management.

Much of his work experience has been in Wildlife Security as a Field Company Commander and 11 years as the Commandant of the KWS Law Enforcement Academy where all uniformed officers attend paramilitary training. He has also worked as Head of Wildlife Investigation, served as the Head of Parks and Reserves and Head of Security and as the Head of Inspectorate at KWS that deals with checking for compliance to SOPs and policies throughout the organization. In 2008, he was awarded the honours of Head of State Commendation (HSC) by the then President of Kenya in recognition of his contribution to wildlife conservation.

Robert had a distinguished career at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) where he mentored many junior and senior officers during his tour of duty. In 2012, he co-authored a research paper entitled “Spatiotemporal patterns of elephant poaching in South-eastern Kenya” that has won many accolades and widely referenced as it provided deep insights in the poaching of elephants in Tsavo. He retired in December 2020 and left an indelible mark in the organization as a wildlife security expert.
