Conservation

Tsavo Conservation Area

Tsavo Conservation Area (TCA) is 49,611 km2, including Tsavo East and West National Parks, Chyulu Hills National Park, Mkomozi (Tanzania), privately owned land, ranches, conservancies and communal land.  African Elephant Conservation Research Foundation main objectives are to protect the habitat and environment for elephants and other species in the TCA by conducting behavioral and management-oriented studies to complement the efforts of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Wildlife Research and Training Institutes (WRTI).

Habitat Conservation

We monitor seasonal changes in the environment and resource availability for wildlife. With long-term data from the Tsavo Elephant Research we examine trends of the impact of climate change on the landscape, elephants and other wildlife.

Elephants Conservation

Tsavo Conservation Area has the largest elephant population in Kenya. The total elephant aerial count in 2021 estimated the elephant population to be approximately 14,964 individuals (results from 2025 count pending). Tsavo Elephant Research is the longest study on elephant behavior in the Tsavo Conservation Area. The goals of the research are to protect the Tsavo elephant population and their habitat. The research monitors trends in elephant behavioral-ecology related to environmental conditions and human activity.

Engage The Community

Community involvement in the conservation and management of wildlife is in resolving conflicts between humans and wildlife and creating sustainable management and conservation of resources. Local communities also play a vital role in the fight against wildlife crime.
